Royse City High School officials banned the airing of a student-produced public-service announcement because it features two girls almost kissing.

The school asked Seniors Mackenzie Maxwell and Keri Zimlich to create an honest public service announcment. They also ask that the girls be creative and risky. So Ms. Maxwell, who’s moter struggled with her sexuality, decided to make a video about a teenage girl struggling with her sexuality aswell.

The Video shows a girl and a guy smitting and the girl isn’t happy and feels uncomfortable around the guy. Later she shows up with a girl and is happy and very comfortable. The girls lean in and it looks as if they were going to kiss, but that’s as far as the video goes. It still, however didn’t satisfy the school. They banned the lesbian themed video from airing on their local television station.

"I thought this public-service announcement embodied all that I believed in," the 17 year old Mackenzie says “"I think there is like 1.28 seconds where it suggests they are going to kiss," she said

The District Director Jo Nell Melody “There was an inappropriate clip in it, and they told her if she took that piece of the PSA out, they would run it/”

Mackenzie refused to remove it. I agree with her, the kiss never happens and it was a lesbian themed PSA. They said they would run the video anyway. So from what I gather according to them, it’s ok to be a lesbian but wrong to kiss?

"I don't think I have to change the video, because I don't think anything is offensive about it," says Mackenzie. "I think it's a quality piece of work, and I don't think that the administration should be able to stop a quality piece of work to be aired - especially if there isn't anything bad about it." Don’t you just love this girl? "I think it promotes truth, honesty and being honest with yourself," she said. "I think if you're homosexual, you should be honest with yourself."

After Mackenzie stood up to her rights and put them in their place, the school took the chickens way out by saying the school has the right to censor anything that students produce. I hate when people do that. They can discriminate all they want and aslong as they have the right to censor they can get away with it. That’s bullshit. That protects them from getting sued. Just like Myspace and Youtube, when you are about to sure them for discirmination they throw the old “we have the right to delete content” excuse to prevent from getting sued.
