>>>>Girls Kissing the Latest Trend?
Sep. 3, 2008 by "PDD"
There are several websites and “girly” magazines that are claming that girls kissing (each other) is the latest trend and their placing the blame on the ever so popular song “I Kissed a Girl” by Katy Perry.
I don’t know who started this story, but whoever did needs to do some research. Girls kissing each other isn’t anything new and Katy Perry isn’t the first female to sing about it. Can’t forget about Jill Sabule’s “I Kissed a Girl” song.
There is a psychiatrist by the name of Dr. Lawrence Abrams that says girls don't understand what they're doing.
"The kids are getting into it because they heard something about it being dangerous, and exciting, and 'let's try something new to get attention.'"
Dangerous? With all due respect to the “Doc” if he thinks that girls kissing each other is dangerous than he is the one that needs to see a doctor! Again girls kissing each other is not new.
In the early 1990’s we saw the first lesbian kiss on Prime time television since then the amount of girl/girl kisses on television has increased every year. Not to mention film.
Girls kissing is not a trend. We’re just seeing more of it, but why? Is it because of Girls Gone Wild? Brittany Spears and Madonna? Katy Perry? No. I like to think it’s because of websites like this (honestly we’re the only website like this) Girls are starting to realize that they can kiss and noone can do anything about it other than complain. Everyone is saying its because of Katy Perry's song, but i disagree. Girls are not doing it because of the song, their getting noticed because of the song. It seems that anytime two girls kiss now, people say it's because of the song. It's not! I wish for once the media could get it right. It's just like the video game Grand Theft Auto. Everyone blamed real life carjackings, shootings etc on the game, but truth be told, that isn't anything new. Shootings and carjackings have always occurred. The reason why people are comparing it to the game is because the media has been giving it more attention. That's just how it is with girls kissing. Everyone thinks that girls are kissing because of the song, but in reality the media is just covering it more. Girls aren't doing anything they haven't done before the song was released.
There is a new word called “hetero-flexible” which means straight girls that kiss girls. Not sure if that’s a good thing or bad, but I guess it’s a good excuse if a teen gets caught by her mother kissing her best friend. “Oh, don’t worry mom I’m not bisexual, I’m hetero-sexual”?
Bottom line is noone including us are responsible for any kind of kissing trend, because there is no kissing trend. Those that have joined our message board have seen thousands of girls kissing and those came a long way before Katy Perry. This is just another example of the media trying to make a story out of nothing.
